Two soldiers on leave meet a waitress in a café, red tray in hand. The men launch into a playful and witty competition, eventually engaging the girl in their giddy play. The partnering combinations among the trio become more athletic, and a dreamy tone seeps into their movement. Unnerving by proximity to love, the men retreat back into careless cavorting. At the sound of their boat’s departing whistle they bounce off stage — only to be replaced by two newly arriving soldiers.
